The custom was, in times gone by,
when God or Heaven came to mind,
to lift one’s eyes up to the sky,
such Presence there to find.
For sky was everything unknown,
ethereal, and counter to
earth – the gross material zone,
the sins of me and you.
Yes, bodies and such earth-bound things
are where emotions do their worst:
to find the joy that Heaven brings,
put Spirit first.
We’ve broken now the spell of sky
with aeroplanes and views from space;
when sky is sought from up on high
– there’s no such place.
Earth is altered too from here,
we have an all-inclusive view
where sky as space holds earth as sphere
– no longer two.
Awakening is just the same:
not opposite to where we are,
gone is that restricting frame
– an earth-shattering “Aha!”
Though even “Aha!” does not seem
to have a place in the sublime:
duality was just a dream
– in a dream of time.
